Something new in the mix …

Well, call me crazy, but we have added a newcomer to the mix, or would that be a mix of a newcomer?  At any rate, I’d like to introduce you all to Django, a Cairn Terrier x Cocker Spaniel that we have adopted.

Django
Our new mutt!

I have been off-handedly looking for a ‘pocket pet’ for the past few years.  I was keen on getting a wire haired muttish looking fellow, but since I’m diametrically opposed to designer dogs and backyard breeders purpose breeding x’s, it had to be from a shelter or a freebie being rehomed.  I had almost given up when this guy showed up on a Freecycle page on facebook.  It was love at first sight so I inquired and Django came to live with us even though he is at least twice the size I was hoping for!

In his short little life of 5 mos, Django (renamed from Odin) has already had 3 homes before coming to us.  It is unclear to us whether he was the product of a backyard designer dog breeder or othewise, but the fact is I did not think he should have to undergo yet another move so he is here to stay.  His ‘breeder’ apparently homed him at 6 wks; his next owner lost his job/house and didn’t think a van was a good environment for a pup (thank goodness); his 3rd home took him on a whim (from the same Freecycle site where I saw him) because he was so cute, but then realized with a new baby on the way that they didn’t want to bother with a puppy :-; so, here is he with us.  Django has fit in marvelously with the ‘lukis, even though Truffle thinks he should be lunch.  He is a very confident, tenacious lil fella.  Of course, he has had no vaccinations and is not yet neutered, so we are taking care of these things immediately.

Welcome home Django.  You will always know the kind hand of your final owner, and the warmth of her lap 🙂
