The Wait

So, a few months went by after we lost our last Saluki and I decided to start looking for another pup to add to our family. There are many directions I could go, but only a few that would tie into my previous lineage and please my eye the same way. Sadly, the litter didn’t take, so now we wait …

We still have Django, our mutt and I’d love to add in a Corgi to herd my Dexter cows, or a Collie perhaps – I’ve always loved those dogs. We do have a couple livestock guardian dogs as well – Norah, the Maremma, and a new pup in training, Nellie, the Great Pyrenees/Anatolian. The latter is keeping me busy as we navigate training her to bond and stay with her sheep in mid-winter. But they are not Salukis.

I don’t know if it will be this year, or next year, or further afield than that, but I will have another Saluki gracing my couch in the future.

5 Yrs is a long time …

Yep. It’s been 5 yrs since we updated this site. Sadly, all of our attempts at recent litters fell by the wayside. We put Ginger’s litter on hold for a short while until we moved to our new farm and got settled, but when we decided it was time to move forward with it, our chosen sire’s semen had been sold to someone else. That left us feeling mighty defeated, especially given the age of our girls, and though we searched high and low for a suitable match our requests fell on deaf ears and remain unanswered to date. Needless to say, we gave up. Ginger has just turned 10 yrs old, which is quite old to have a first litter, and we are greatly saddened that we will never get a pup from her to continue our breeding program here at Faridaat.  We also had high hopes for a litter from Truffle, who we spent a great deal of money on importing from Germany. We are contemplating our options at this point.  We may just call it quits as we have enough on our plates with the farm, but … I just don’t know if I’m ready to give up yet.  I guess we’ll see.

Terribly Remiss

Well … needless to say, the relative lack of success in the puppy department coupled with the increasing demands of my hobby farm have kept me from spending much time updating this site or doing many doggy type events. I won’t promise to get this updated any time soon, but for those who want to keep in touch, please check us out on Facebook as that is a much easier presence to keep updated. Just type in Faridaat Salukis and you’ll find us.

Site Move et al

For the umpteenth time, our site had been hacked, so I’ve moved it to a different server that better supports the ‘blogging’ software that this site is done in.  You will find there are images missing, since the move has broken many of the links.  We will, of course, be working toward getting those repaired, but it all takes time and I don’t have much free these days, so I’ll get to it when I get to it.

We had a rather disappointing 2013, on all fronts, with the loss of a family member, an infectious disease in my new heritage poultry business (necessitating a mass culling of all my breeding stock), and 2 failed attempts at a litter for Faridaat Dirah Talulah ‘Tula’, among other things.  I wasn’t sad to see 2013 go, but this is a new year and we have high hopes.  We are making 1 more attempt to breed Tula, this time to Faridaat Ghazal ‘Rahz’, who has matured into a lovely gentleman – masculine, but not coarse – and smooth too.  I expect a very promising bunch of pups if it works.

aliIf that doesn’t take, then we’re moving forward with another very promising litter out of Faridaat Eo Fantomah ‘Ginger’ (Santana Blackbird x Melik Gulshen), generation 3 desert descent from Saudi/Turkish lineage, by BiS, RBiS, SBiS Ph. Can. Ch. IROKI BLACK TIE AFFAIR F. Ch (Awn Firuza Gibran ex Ch. Iroki Camille, born July 2002.) bred by Roberta Pattison (Iroki) and owned by Catherine Hays (Bryn Mynstrel). Ali has had multiple wins as a youth and a veteran – both show and lure – and was the winner of the Elana Trophy, 2010. Ali is the ultimate gentleman, an accomplished show and coursing dog and his lines tie perfectly into the western side of my pedigree. Coupled with Ginger’s solid moderate conformation and coursing ancestry this should be a fabulous litter! Serious inquiries welcomed.

Update – Faridaat H Litter – Fall 2013

Much to our chagrin, we were not able to achieve a successful breeding on Tula’s cycle. All is not lost, however, as we plan to try again on her next season, which should be in July/Aug. The timing is not as ideal as a spring litter, but we are certain the resulting litter will be WELL WORTH THE WAIT! If you are interested in the Faridaat H Litter , feel free to contact us for more information.

Take a look at our facebook album.

Faridaat H Litter – Spring 2013

We are very pleased and excited to announce litter plans for Spring 2013.  The handsome sire to be is Faridaat Eo Dash Incredible and our lovely lady in waiting is Faridaat Dirah Talulah.  This litter is the culmination of  15 yrs of planning and will combine my part desert lineage with my western lineage!  To say we are excited is an understatement.  Puppies from this litter should not only be beautiful show dogs, but should rock the coursing fields!  For more information and pedigree, please see our Upcoming Litters page.

We are now taking reservations for pups from this litter with preference given to show/coursing homes.  Serious inquiries only.

A terrible loss…

With much sadness we offer our sincerest condolences to Mimi Shine and her family. On Friday, July 27 her beloved companion Faridaat Finneas aka ‘Finny’ escaped from his yard and was hit by a car. He died at the scene. Such a tragic end to a young dog in his prime 😦 We had such high hopes for this boy.  He is survived by his brothers Fareed & Feonix, and sisters Cari, Falena, and Tirzah. Run swiftly dear boy, run swiftly.

New Field Champion

Congratulations to Faridaat Bryn’m Caramel Fudge ‘Cari’ who is now a field champion with points to spare! She finished running in mixed stakes and blasted a Greyhound that took BiF the day before. Way to go Cari and her owner Catherine Hays from Alberta, Canada.
