burydown hilerica ulahni

We’ve just been informed that Burydown Hilerica Ulahni ‘Lahni’ left this world last week. We send our sincere condolences to all who are mourning her loss. She was an amazing girl who was loved by many and produced some beautiful offspring to carry on the Burydown legacy. We are fortunate to have her wonderful daughter BURYDOWN VIOLANE GEM and greatly value what she has brought to our breeding program. Sleep easy dear Lahni. You are revered and remembered. Lahni was born May 24, 1997.

A hearty congratulations to Cathie Hays and Cari (Faridaat Bryn’M Caramel Fudge) for winning BOB twice from the junior puppy class at the Eveyn Kenny Dog Show in Calgary this weekend!  She was awarded under judges Patrick Fitzsimmons and Robert Rowbotham (Cedarwind Salukis).  I have a feeling these pups are going to do us proud!  Cari is from the Faridaat F litter, the last pups we got from our beautiful Burydown Violane Gem ‘Layla’.

Dooley has found a home!  He’ll be travelling to Manitoba on Monday to live with Gord & Diane Ford at Al-hurr Salukis.  Dooley will have a couple lovely girls to call his own and a male buddy to chum with too.  We are very thrilled that he’ll be going to live with the Ford’s, but we sure will miss him.

update on mystery infections

We are very thankful that the prednisone is working on Layla’s nose.  The weeping has stopped, no new lesions have appeared, and her nose is finally showing signs of recovery.  Here she is shown today, after 15 days on her meds.  We are hopeful that she will regrow pigment and hair!

The purple strings are the location of several biopsies that the vet had done.  Truffle has shown no further signs of reaction, but we have yet to discover what caused it in the first place.  It’s pretty hard to fight off an invisible problem.

mysterious infections

About a week before Christmas 2010, I came  home to find our lovely Layla with a very swollen nose and what appeared to be a bite mark on either side of her snout.  I thought she had possibly been in a tousle with one of our other dogs, but thought it odd since she had been in the house all morning with only 2 others.  Unfortunately, it quickly progressed to a mass of weeping lesions and was clearly not what it initially appeared.  She also began showing signs on other body parts.

Showing day 1 through day 5

Two days after dicsovering Layla’s nose I noticed that Truffle also had lesions on her snout and hot spots in her ears and other areas, but we immediately placed her on antibiotics and hers never erupted into anything of note, until New Year’s day; she came in after playing outdoors for a bit and her whole face was swollen, presumably from the same issue. Thank goodness for Benadryl.

Truffle's allergic reaction on New Year's Day

After much worry, several vet visits, and a lot of $$ we concluded that both had experienced an allergic reaction that Layla’s had become infected.  The lab results indicated Eosinophilic Furunculosis, which is generally caused by a foreign contaminant or an insect bite.  We still have no idea what she reacted to in the first place, but I have since made sure that we always have Benadryl in the house as early treatment might have saved a lot of pain and suffering on everyone’s behalf. We ended up treating her with antibiotics and a steroid and it began clearing up.

wanted: loving family

Faridaat Gahn Doolahli 'Dooley'

This handsome, smooth, gold grizzle male is in the market for a family of his own. We hope to place him in Canada since he’s already been imported here, but will consider a home in the US as well. Dooley is an outgoing, dominant puppy, so we are looking for an experienced Saluki home for him where he may be shown/coursed. We would like to co-own him, but will consider other arrangements. Serious inquiries only please.

off to ontario-ari-oooo!

Faridaat Gordhan-Ji of Our aka Gordhan is heading to his new home in Ontario, Canada today! His new owner Johnny Mroz also owns Gordhan’s uncle Karnak Hero Leonidas ‘Leo’. Gordhan will most likely be shown and coursed and above all – LOVED! Welcome to the Faridaat family Johnny!

Update: Gordhan arrived safely in Ontario and Johnny is in love!
