Policies

Here comes the dry, wordy, but very important information!

As reponsible breeders, we have a genuine interest in the breed, it’s health, and where we place our puppies.  Breeding a litter is prefaced with much research and efforts to find healthy, suitable parents and ensure the best care for sire, dam and puppies.  Please consider the following:

  • We test our breeding stock for heart, thyroid and other breed specific problems before allowing them to be used in our breeding program.
  • Our puppies are kitchen raised & well socialized.
  • We provide life long support & guarantee healthy puppies.
  • All of our puppies are CKC registered (with the exception of possible first/second generation desert bred litters) and sold on a non-breeding contract unless otherwise arranged.
  • Puppies placed as pets may be subject to a neuter/spay agreement.
  • Puppies must come back to us if they can no longer remain in their home.

Puppy Placement
We do not breed for quantity or for demand. Generally, we only breed a litter when we desire to add one to our own family of Salukis and breeding program. Pups not selected to stay within our home are placed with the utmost concern for their well-being regardless of show, coursing or pet home. A considerable amount of care and thought is put into the planning each litter and consequently we expect all puppies in litter to be of great quality and all should make great family companions, but for the puppies going to breeders and show/competition homes, conformation and performance must be also be considered. Puppies that will go to show and competition homes are chosen first for this reason. We try to match families with the puppy that best suits their requirements.

We do not breed to produce specific or fashionable colours – we breed for quality in conformation, type and function so please don’t ask us if we can provide you with <insert colour here> puppies. We do not have “ready to sell” puppies at any given time because we breed sparingly every 2-4 years, therefore most potential homes will need to wait for a litter. We promise – it’s worth it!

The Saluki is not a dog breed that is in high demand and we have no desire to overproduce. Most of our puppies are spoken for before they are born. Those who are seriously interested in one of our puppies will be screened thoroughly. If you are interested in one of our puppies please contact us to inquire.

Puppy Cost
You will notice that most reputable breeders of purebred dogs do not put pricing on their websites. Those who have a passing interest in this breed often contact us and the first question asked is “What is the price of a puppy?” We understand that cost is always an issue but this information is not posted on our website because we don’t believe that the cost of a quality puppy from a well thought out litter should be a contributing factor to the purchase. Furthermore, we won’t sell our puppies to just anyone who happens along with the right amount of money. That would be negligent and not in the best interest of our pups. Please keep in mind that the reputable breeder has a vested interest in what they produce and many years worth of breeding, a lot of hard work, care and careful study goes into the production one litter.

The price of our puppies includes their socialization, initial health checks, deworming, dew claw removal, microchip implant or tattoo, the first puppy vaccination, a complete evaluation of your puppy just prior to you taking possession, and lifelong support and mentoring by us. In addition to these factors the cost of the stud fees vary greatly and thus has an impact on the final cost of the puppies. If you are genuinely interested in owning a Saluki, by all means email us and we will be happy to tell you when our next litter is expected and what the approximate cost of a puppy will be!

Puppy Shipping
We prefer that families come to pick up their pup, but we realize this is not always possible. It is beneficial to you, the purchaser, to meet us in person, see our kennel premises, view the Dam (and possibly the Sire) of your puppy and interact with the rest of our canine family.

If a visit to our home cannot be arranged and you are out of country, we suggest you hire a shipping company to make arrangements for transporting your pup home. If you are in Canada we suggest ACLive for cargo shipping. It is also possible that a ride can be arranged with someone else travelling to dog shows in your lcoale.

For the safety and well-being of your pup, we require that flights be as direct as possible. No puppy will be shipped within Canada until it is at least 10-12 weeks of age. Puppies travelling to international destinations must reach a minimum of 4 months of age and be fully vaccinated for rabies before crossing borders. Please educate yourself on the quarantine/vaccination policies in your country/state before arranging flights.

All shipping costs are at YOUR expense and arrangements are your responsibility.
